Het programma APRS Beacon Editor is een hulmiddel om een APRS baken te kunnen maken met daarin de elementen zoals PHG, Altitude and Operational Frequency.
Het is niet eenvoudig om deze elementen 'met de hand' te maken en dan toe te voegen aan het APRS programma.. Dit programma helpt bij het samenstellen van deze lementen en men kan door middel van een knop het resultaat op het Windows clipboard zetten, daarna kan deze baken tekst in het 'beacon comment' worden geplakt.
Let op : dit programma staat los van UIView en kan dus ook voor andere Windows APRS software gebruikt worden.
Het "Operational
Frequency" Element:
De nieuwe Kenwood TM-D710 mobile APRS transceiver heeft een nieuwe feature: Tune to Operational (aka QSY) frequency.
APRS bakens met een specifieke frekwentie string maken het mogelijk dat de ontvangende TM-D710 operator door middel van de 'TUNE' toets automatish afstemd op deze frekwentie..
De APRS Beacon Editor heeft 5 tabs :
Algemeen, hier geef je aan welke elementen je uiteindelijk in je APRS baken wilt hebben, heb je een keuze gemaakt dan zie je het resultaat gelijk op het scherm, ook zoaks het wordt weergegven op diverse Kenwood transceivers. Met een druk op de knop staat de tekst in het clipboard en kun je het plakken in je APRS programma.
PHG, hier kunnen je alle PHG instellingen definieren.
Antenne hoogte, hier wordt de /A= string opgebouwd
Werk Frekwentie, dit is de frekwentie waar je QRV bent, dus in het geval je naast APRS ook nog een 2 meter of 70 com transceiver hebt voor spraak dan gaat het om de frekwntie van deze transceiver. Andere APRS stations zien dan op welke QRG je standby bent en kunnen je eenvoudig oproepen. (de TMD710 heeft hier zelfs een aparte toets voor.)
Ext. Operating Freq., dit wordt nog niet gebruikt (het is wachten op nadere specifikaties)

De meeste instellingen die je in het programma kan doen worden in het APRS_Beacon.ini bestand bewaard.
Als je het programma afsluit worden de gegevens opgeslagen, als je het start worden de instellingen uit het bestand gelezen en zijn ze zichtbaar in het programma.
